Welcome to The Reflex Therapy Zone.

Reflexology is classified as an alternative medicine or complementary therapy. ‘Alternative medicine’ is a phrase that depicts and differentiates non-conventional medicine from modern western medicine. (Herzberg  2001). Complementary therapies when combined with orthodox medicine can enhance and improve health. (Ernst 2000).

Experts in the complementary medicine field have differing opinions of the nature of reflexology. Some professionals consider it a science or refer to it as a practice. Others practitioners deem it a method or regard reflexology as a theory. Most therapists, however view it as a therapy. All agree on the principle that reflexology is a natural holistic treatment for stimulating energy that allows the body to self heal. The use of compression massage and/or asserting pressure to reflex points or zones predominantly found on the hands and feet are the known techniques effectively applied to excite this response.

It is known that when stimulating a reflex within a particular locality of the foot or hand a response will occur at a corresponding site within the related area of the body. These reflex points are thought to conform to an outline and / or diagram of the whole body superimposed on to the feet. Longitudinal and latitudinal lines help identify specific areas related to reflexes and response. Reflexologists refer to diagrams and chart that illustrate this mapping.

Established as an independent practise serving the West coast of Scotland by Angela McKell, a registered general nurse with 23 years nursing experience both in the primary, secondary and hospice care setting. After completing her Health Studies degree which involved complementary therapy and reflexology research, Angela successfully completed a reflexology diploma at the Scottish College of Complementary Medicine in Glasgow. Our vision is of complementary therapy and modern medicine working in conjunction with each other to the benefit of patients during illness.

We offer reflexology treatment or massage as a complementary or alternative approach to health, relaxation and healing. We are a  member of the Complementary Therapist Association (CThA) and fully insured by Embody.
