The Arrochar and Tarbet Community Development Trust
Meeting minutes are included at the bottom of this page.
The Arrochar & Tarbet Community Development Trust was formed in 2003 as a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Scottish Charity following a Community Futures Programme run by the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The Trust has 10 volunteer Directors. The main objective of the Trust has been to provide a new village Hall for the communities of Arrochar, Tarbet and Succoth ( the Three Villages ) to replace a facility owned by Argyll and Bute Council and closed down in 1998. Over the years since the formation of the Trust continuous efforts have been made to this end, culminating in the procurement of sufficient funding mainly from the Big Lottery, LEADER and Argyll and Bute Council. Building of the new hall commenced in January of this year and is due for completion in January 2010. The site of the hall and thereby the Campus is on the shores of Loch Long looking across to the Cobbler Mountain and the Arrochar Alps. In 2005 the Trust purchased a café ( the Pit Stop ) to run as a social enterprise to help fund its ambitions This was secured by funding from the Land Fund, Scottish Enterprise and a loan from Social Investment Scotland. The Pit Stop is situated adjacent to the new hall thereby forming part of the Campus. The Pit Stop, as a café, while repaying part of the loan has never been as successful as hoped and plans are in hand to change the use of the building. As part of the funding applications a revenue amount was included to cover the employment of a Campus Manager, part of which has been funded by the Big Lottery, to help develop the Campus over a three year period after which it is hoped the post will be supported by income generated by the hall facility. Liz Baillie from Tarbet has been selected for this role. Also included in the Campus project is marine access via a pier which it is hoped will be built opposite the new hall. The Trust is currently in discussion with other agencies on this project. A neighbouring hotel has plans to build on land behind the new hall and as part of that project to include a sports pitch for use by the community. The Campus manager, while initially responsible for the new village hall and the Pit Stop, may also have the pier and sports pitch included in the remit. Arrochar is situated at the head of Loch Long in The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and has good travel and transport links via the A83/82 and the A814 as well as rail and coach services.
CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT PLANS Arrochar & Tarbet Community Development Trust have released proposed outline sketches from the campus focus group to give us an insight into the next phase of the campus development plans. Once the Architect has produced professional drawings these will be included within the business plan for Marine Access and future onshore facilities, being submitted to the Scottish Government Rural Priorities funding initiative for a development grant. This is a joint partnership application involving the Development Trust, Argyll & Bute Council, Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Authority, SPT (Strathclyde Passenger Transport) and Community Links Scotland (CLS) for a marine Access Pontoon and the Trust's proposed "Long Stop" facilities. Click on the following links to view the preliminary sketches , north-west elevation or floor plans of the proposed “long stop” and the sketch of the proposed pontoon .
